SICILY – A STORY OF TIMELESS BEAUTY
| ICONIC FASHION| Chiara Melani
Sicily, a word that encompasses the entire Dolce&Gabbana universe: origins, traditions, colors, passion, femininity. Presented for the first time in 2009, it has evolved in many variations while maintaining its essence: the handle that is anchored with metal meshes on both sides to two metal cylinders wrapped in leather. Decorations, art and craftsmanship: from the classic iguana print or dauphine leather and leopard textured leather, to the small stitch craftsmanship, crocheted with decorations, engraving, Sicily lace and golden embroidery, and up to the most valuable models in hand-painted python and crocodile.
The Sicily 58 and 62, named for the years of birth of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, are evolutions of the iconic Sicily bag. It is an elegant, structured and recognizable bag that continues to adorn and enhance with its unmistakable and elegantly feminine identity.
The two models are made of fine leather fromSwitzerland and France to which a special treatment is applied that gives the leather a natural finish; the nappa lining is cut from a full grain of leather to maintain the material’s high-quality characteristics. It is processed with ribbing so that the leather edge is carefully rounded and smoothed: on a neutral base that serves to level out the edges, the ribbing is then brushed to remove any impurities and to smooth the edges, and finally color is applied twice giving it ample time to dry. The inside
of the bag is practical, spacious, and adjustable featuring two compartments divided by an inner flap. It is fitted with an external plaque, made with an innovative system that gives the logo a two-tone effect.
