A place in the sun

Experience the profound magic of the Orient while staying practically inside what has been included in U.N.E.S.C.O.’s list of World Heritage Sites since 1998: the Summer Palace in Beijing.

Founded in 1750 during the Qing dynasty, the Summer Palace came out of the Emperor’s desire to build a “place of luxuries”, a pleasant place, where he could retire during the summer thus escaping the oppressive heat of the Forbidden City.

Now extending over an area of more than 290 hectares including woods, palaces, and themed pavilions, the Summer Palace is one of the historical treasures of Imperial China.  The AMAN Summer Palace is the only hotel which allows its guests to fully experience the grandeur of the Chinese Emperors, and to almost feel like foreign ambassadors waiting to be received by the Empress Cixi.

Located just a few steps away from the East Gate to the Summer Palace grounds, the AMAN Summer Palace offers a maze of pavilions in traditional Chinese style.  The entire resort provides its customers with: squash courts, restaurants, bars, a boutique with exquisite Chinese products, a spa including an indoor pool, a cigar bar, a music room ideal for hosting summer evening music events or corporate meetings, and above all, elegant suites for every taste.

The undisputed jewel is the sumptuous Imperial Suite, spread over three different pavilions and a private internal courtyard, where everything, from the living area to the spa treatment room and majestic bedroom, offers attention to detail perhaps on par with that of the ancient imperial court.

Everywhere you can take in the air of Imperial China, and for those who would like to really get acquainted with the country, the AMAN Summer Palace gives the opportunity to take part in tours which could spark an interest in even the most demanding tourist.  The resort offers various organized tours, from traditions trips to explore Beijing, to inland “expeditions” to rediscover the serenity of rural villages or the splendid architectural treasures protected by U.N.E.S.C.O.  All of this is organized with the possibility to travel without giving up resort benefits, thanks to the chance to stay in other AMAN resorts spread throughout the country.
