Design for collectors

Dedicated to collectors looking for unique pieces, the furnishings selected by Gallery All – with locations in Los Angeles and Beijing – express a perfect fusion of art and design, etched in artifacts with primordial charm. They are original, unexpected, and sublime.

These objects lie halfway between art and design, in an expressive and formal synthesis. Here lamps, seats, and tables become creative iconic expressions. It is with this vision that Gallery All brings together designers that are passionate about experimental research, such as American Aranda/Lasch based in New York and Tucson, and their Railing Series line of seating, or Zhipeng Tan and his style rooted in organicism.

Biomorphic shapes intersect in a union of material and memory, in which a body’s skeletal structure becomes a polished, golden seat. This evocative object seems to waver, with its almost imperceptible support and a particular structure that challenges the laws of statics and equilibrium.

In a game of material subtraction, the four traditional supports are unveiled in three subtle organic legs that reinvent the human skeleton.

Having always been interested in heritage casting techniques, artist Zhipeng Tan’s inspirations and his “rational design” are revealed in various motives borrowed from nature: from botany to everything that revolves around the human figure.

It becomes a sort of modern, expressive, and conceptual humanism. His creations express
a fascinating combination of elements that tell a new story, in a string of signs and features. Details recreate an artistic dimension, like with 33 step chair, one of Tan’s most visceral works. It is made with a precise rendering of the number of vertebrae in the human spinal column, but inverted in respect to anatomy.

In the artistic designer’s mind, the cervical vertebrae are on the floor, while the pelvis becomes the actual seat. In a game of symbolic references, the body itself becomes an object that welcomes the body, among sinuous twists and poetic narratives.
