ICONIC EVENT| Elisa Aliotta
Baselworld International Show
Baselworld: it is the world’s most prestigious watch and jewelry fair in the world, and it is due to return again this year. Spreading over 140,000 square meters, the exposition runs from March 22 to 27, and gives previews of all the innovations and creations of world-famous watches and jewelry.
This edition is even more packed and focused; here, all of the trends for 2018 will be unveiled. Quality, technology, and art are spokespeople for the world’s best companies in this sector. About 700 exhibitors will have the chance to make their message heard and present their products in a single place, to the biggest fans and appraisers in the sector.
In fact, this event stands out because of its ability to gather the most important brands under one roof, together with media and the most influential buyers in jewelry and precious stones, thus creating an exchange of ideas and thoughts about the world of watchmaking and beyond. From production to distribution, from clients to consumers, this is a chance to discuss, exchange, and experience all the emotions from sector leaders that are distinguished by high-quality materials, workmanship, and assembly.
The concept of Baselworld 2018 was developed in close collaboration with the most important exhibitors, and all efforts were made to develop a traditional fair within an extended market characterized by new forms of digital communication in order to meet the sector’s needs.
To do so, the fair will be supported by Chatbot “Baselworld Live News”, relaying live news on everything related to the event via mobile messaging services like Facebook Messenger, WeChat, and Telegram, “thus offering interactive, instantaneous, direct and personalized communication, allowing us to bring exhibitors and visitors closer together more quickly”, explains Sylvie Ritter, Managing Director of Baselworld.
“The complete Rare Handcrafts collection will be presented for the first time only during the show”, says Thierry Stern, President of Patek Philippe. “It is a time of very positive energy for the team involved at the show, given that the timepieces leave our workshops for delivery just in time for Baselworld’s opening, and offer a rare opportunity to see this amazing collection in its entirety”, he adds. Jean-Claude Biver, head of LVMH (Hublot, Zenith, TAG Heuer) watch division, also affirms the importance of visual and personal contact that is present during the exhibition, and announces many new innovations for 2018.
Therefore, Baselworld 2018 takes the first step towards a new revolutionary concept, yet remains an all-encompassing experience where you can participate in a unique atmosphere that digital means alone still can’t give.
