ICONIC POLO | Asia Bernardini

The 35th edition of the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz, taking place next January 25-27, has announced a great return to the scene: polo superstar Juan Martin Nero. After winning the trophy in 2004, the 10-goaler Argentine has left an indelible mark in the sport of polo over the past decade, and is currently ranked among the best three players in the world. “We are thrilled to be able to count on so many top players, who, year after year, want to take part in the world’s only highgoal tournament on snow.

At the same time, we are pleased to report a steady rise in attention and demand from sponsors and guests around the globe. This is a great compliment for St. Moritz and the outstanding efforts of all partners involved,” tournament organizer Reto Gaudenzi proudly acknowledges. In fact, the Snow Polo World Cup St. Moritz and its prestigious Cartier Trophy enjoy a matchless reputation: the athletic performance on the snow is unrivalled anywhere else in the world and this is the reason why the tournament has become a standing appointment for many world-class players and polo enthusiasts, where high-level teams will compete with the Engadine Alps as an extraordinary backdrop.

But the real stars are the captains with their valiant warriors. For her fourth tournament, Badrutt’s Palace Hotel team captain Melissa Ganzi will be counting on the wealth of experience of top player Alejandro Novillo Estrada (ARG). Zhanna Badurko from Russia, a second female captain, will head up Team Maserati yet another time, and can count on the support of Chris Hyde, Max Charlton (both ENG) and Robert Strom, the best player from France. Grant Ganzi will captain the Cartier team, playing with Marc Ganzi, Tito Gaudenzi (SUI) and will welcome Juan Martin Nero to the team. The celebrated player has achieved everything there is to accomplish in this sport: he is the eight-times winner of the prestigious “Argentine Open” tournament – an annual competition held in Buenos Aires, a true holy grail of polo. Finally, Team Azerbaijan Land of Fire will repeat the promising collaboration between Elchin Jamalli and Tarlan Gurbanaliyev, both from AZE, together with Argentine cousins Lala and Adrian Laplacette Jr. Unwavering interest from well-known sponsors and ticket sales, which once again point towards selling out, are confirmation; in addition to the four team sponsors Badrutt’s Palace Hotel, Cartier, Maserati, and Azerbaijan Land of Fire, global lead partner Deutsche Bank Wealth Management, outfitter La Martina, and trophy sponsors have all renewed their commitments.

Ticket sales are on the rise, especially for VIP passes, the Perrier-Jouët Chukker Club, and the exclusive “Baku Moritz Gala” scheduled for January 26, 2019. We just have to hurry up and make sure to get a seat at the spectacular game, and definitely not miss the most exclusive events at the start of the year!
