POETRY A GLASS GARDEN
ICONIC HOTEL | Asia Bernardini
Poetry: A Glass Garden represents another chapter in the public art project that Ca’ Sagredo started in 2017 with the ‘hands’ of Lorenzo Quinn’s installation Support.
I am happy that Adonis, Yang, and Núñez – leading figures in contemporary culture – have chosen Venice as the perfect city to launch an innovative appeal to humanity, to recognize the value of art and beauty, and that they have accepted the invitation from Ca’ Sagredo, thus continuing its tradition of hosting world intellects,” introduces Lorenza Lain, General Manager Ca’ Sagredo Hotel. Great poetry of the world will encounter Murano glass, and take shape in the artistic work Poetry: A Glass Garden, promoted by Ca’ Sagredo in occasion of the 2019 Biennale d’Arte. On October 24 and 25, and November 1 and 2, three internationally renowned poets Adonis, Victor Rodriguez Núñez and Yang Lian, will work in Massimiliano Schiavon’s kiln in Murano together with artist Marco Nereo Rotelli.
Amidst words and glassworks, they aspire to a majestic creation that grants physical substance to their own verses, and entrusts glass and its reflections with the task of interpreting this passage of poetry into a three-dimensional state. Poetry: A Glass Garden will be open to the public from May to November 2019. Marco Nereo Rotelli, a versatile Venetian artist famous for his lighting installations, reveals more details: “During their stay in Venice, the poets will experience the enchantment
and cultural charm of Venice and the historical palazzo, and will interpret this by clear consciousness which they have used to break centuries-old, established patterns in their respective cultures, pushing them towards further awareness.
With these interpretations as basis, I together with Massimiliano Schiavon will create a way in precarious equilibrium between words and light: both imperceptible, yet at the base of our vision – and therefore of our understanding – of the world.” In closing, a comment by Massimiliano Schiavon, founder of the kiln of the same name and 5th generation descendant of Murano glass masters: “When they asked me to participate in Marco Nereo Rotelli’s artistic project, I enthusiastically joined in, because it gives me further opportunity to pay tribute to the power of glass, able to make light tactile and to materialize thought.”
