Joie de vivre
ICONIC FASHION | Autore C.M.
Milan, Venice and Portofino, the magnificent beauty of this Bel Paese acts as backdrop to the wonders of Damiana goldsmith art. The codes of feminine elegance have no borders and to celebrate their ninety-fifth birthday Damiani has chosen Madalina Ghenea as the exceptional face for the new campaign of the brand from Valenza. The model and actress wears jewelry from the collections D.Icon, Eden, Margherita, Metropolitan, Belle Epoque, D.Side, Minou and High Jewelry creations from lines like Vulcania, Emozioni, Mimosa and Notte Di San Lorenzo. It is a tribute to the Mediterranean beauty accompanied by the atmosphere of the Dolce Vita with quotes from
masterpiece films by Fellini, De Sica, Rossellini.
Model, actress, and co-host. Who is Madalina Ghenea?
A mother before all of this. A mother all along: I have always taken care of children, that’s why before having Charlotte for many years I was a volunteer. I had moved to Haiti to take care of a little girl who was in a hospital, I tried to adopt her but after two years with lawyers unfortunately we weren’t able to.
In an interview you said that Italy has given you a lot. How do you remember your beginnings here? What do you like most about our country?
I arrived in Italy when I was fourteen: the first fashion brands I walked for were Italian as well as my first film. All of my dreams have come true here… fashion, cinema, the Sanremo Festival that I used to watch as a child with so much admiration dreaming of being on that stage. I decided to raise my daughter here. You have the best food and the most beautiful places and lots of love for the family. It is certainly the most baby friendly place in the world.
Now you are the new face of Damiani. How did this project arise?
This project came about in a somewhat odd way: usually brands are the ones to choose the talent, while in my case it was a little bit the opposite. For many years I was the one to choose jewelry from Maison Damiani for very important occasions, like the Nobel ceremony, red carpets for film festivals like Cannes, Venice, Rome, or the night of the Oscars but also for events that were very important for my career such as the Sanremo Festival or simply for
everyday life. In Damiani, I have always recognized an elegance, class, and an unmistakable style: from the simple Minou solitaire to High Jewelry creations like the Mimosa necklace with morganite or Emozioni diamond earrings, not to mention the Oscars of Jewelry like Blue Moon or Eden… every piece tells and expresses the story of a family that has passionately handed down strong values through three generations: Made in Italy, craftsmanship, savoir-faire, attention to detail and beauty.
The beauty of Damiani creations has always fascinated me: a simple pair of pendant earrings is always characterized by a special balance and harmony, just as a High Jewelry necklace has the right proportions and elegant combination of different precious stones…there is never an exaggerated display of colors, shapes, or combinations. I think that discovering, appreciating, and recognizing the excellence of the Maison’s values built over time, but also my friendship with Silvia, Guido, and Giorgio has allowed me to become the face for Damiani alongside film legends like Brad Pitt, Sharon Stone, and Sophia Loren who I have always admired and who recognized this unmistakable style before me.
How was it to interpret the best of Made in Italy fine jewelry?
I am pleased to have interpreted the Damiani woman in this project that celebrates femininity, elegance, and the joy of living that is typically Italian: the campaign is a journey through the panoramas and landscapes characteristic of some Italian places recognized throughout the world for their beauty. We thought, working together with Silvia Damiani, of a cinematographic style that could tell all of this: elegance, femininity, beauty, and light heartedness.
What is the must have piece from the new collection?
I happen to fall in love with pieces I wear during events, like the Mimosa earrings with opal, but then I discover that these unique pieces of enchanting beauty have been sold.
I have just presented the thriller “L’Orma” at the Namur Festival, which I also hope to be able to present at an Italian Festival. I’m focusing a lot on my second “child”: a project born after the birth of Charlotte, a production company with which I have already done various projects, like the recent Damiani campaign. It takes up a lot of time because for the first time I’m the one managing artists, photographers, and filmmakers who I have the pleasure of recommending to my clients. I am happy to be able to give work to young talent that I discover around the world, and I hope in the future to slowly pass behind the camera. In 2020 I really hope to wrap up two big dreams: coproduce a film and write a screenplay. You just need to dream and make an effort, working very hard: then everything comes together…life has taught me this.
